Peter Obi: Obasanjo’s endorsement exercise in futility, it’s Tinubu’s time – Fani-Kayode

Femi Fani-Kayode, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has voiced his opinion on former President Olusegun Obasanjo's endorsement of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party. Fani-Kayode noted that although Obasanjo is an experienced and well-respected elder statesman, he does not have the authority to make such a political decision.

He stated that each individual should be allowed to make their own decisions when it comes to choosing a leader for the country. "It is essential for people to exercise their right to choose who will lead Nigeria without any undue influence from outside sources," Fani-Kayode said. He also expressed hope that citizens would vote responsibly in order to secure a better future for themselves and generations yet unborn.

Fani-Kayode stated that the endorsement is an exercise in futility and accused Obasanjo of meddling in affairs outside his domain. He urged members of the All Progressives Congress to continue their campaigns and maintain their faith in the electoral process.

He posted in a statement via his verified Twitter handle.

Recall that Nigeria's former President Olusegun Obasanjo has publicly endorsed former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi in a New Year message to the citizens of Nigeria. In the message, Obasanjo commended Obi for his "ability and performance" throughout his political career, noting that his age, physical and mental disposition make him a particularly qualified candidate for the 2023 Presidential election. The endorsement by Obasanjo is sure to be seen as significant, given his reputation as one of Nigeria's most influential statesmen.

When responding to Obasanjo's support of Obi over his principal, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the All Progressive Congress, APC's presidential candidate, for the next presidential election, Fani-Kayode stated it could not alter the reality that Tinubu's time had come.

He noted: “OBJ remains a father to us all & I will always respect him. Despite that, I reserve the right to disagree with him when & where necessary. His endorsement of @PeterObi is not only inexplicable but also an exercise in futility. It is @officialABAT’s time: nothing can change that.”
